The Mergés

What’s up! I just finished going through "Lovely." First off, I really love the vibe you’ve got going on here. It’s quirky, full of great details, and has a lot of personality. It’s a super fun track, and the intro is incredibly effective at setting the stage.

I’ve put together some notes on how you can tighten the arrangement and levels to really make those "ear candy" moments shine:

Vocal Levels & Placement: My main piece of feedback is that the lead vocal is sitting a bit too loud in the mix. I’d try pulling it back by about 1 to 2 dB so it sits within the track rather than on top of it. This is especially true in the sections where the energy steps up; right now, the vocals feel a bit disconnected from the music. Using a reference track in a similar genre could really help you nail that specific balance.

Background Vocals & Ad-libs: You have some great ideas with the background vocals and shouts. I’d say be even bolder with them! Try pushing them further back in the mix with more reverb or even a radio-style filter with some tape delay. It would turn those parts into real "ear candy." Also, for that "choppy" vocal phrasing you’re doing—lean into it! Make it feel even more purposeful and rhythmic.

Low End & Kick: I’m missing a bit of that "pillowy," lo-fi kick drum. It feels like it’s getting lost in the mix. Bringing that up slightly would give the song the solid foundation it needs. There’s a great opportunity near the end to drop everything out and just let that kick drive the rhythm for a moment.

Instrumentation & Transitions: * The Intro: That transition from the intro to the first verse could benefit from a full "drop" behind the strings to give it more impact.

Level Management: Some of the elements—like the brass, the strings in certain sections, and that synth on the left side—are a bit abrasive and loud. Pulling them back slightly will make sure they don't distract from the main vocal.

Mix Bus Compression: To help everything "glue" together, try a bit of mix bus compression. A slow attack with a moderate ratio will help the track breathe and make those choruses feel more cohesive.

Overall Impression:
This is a fantastic, creative track. You’ve got so many cool details in the arrangement; it’s just a matter of balancing the levels so the listener can appreciate everything at once. You’ve got a great ear for the "quirky" side of pop—keep pushing that!

Let me know if you have any questions about these notes. I’m looking forward to hearing more from you. Have a great weekend! Peace.
